Preserve the Connection!

Help ArtThread provide laptops to hospital patients.

Imagine you are stuck in a healthcare facility, far from your family and friends. You are there because there are no other choices near your home, and you just have to be there to get the treatment you need.

Now imagine that you don’t have your own computer, so you are cut off from making those important connections with your family via emails, Facebook, or all the other ways that computers can link us together.

When patients are hospitalized for acute illness they often find themselves in strange places far, far from home. The impact of the illness goes well beyond the physical, separating the patient from all that is familiar: their connection to community and friends.

Our spirits, particularly amidst intense times in our lives, thrive on the support of our family and friends.  Patients use portable computers for social networking, email, and video conferencing to positively express and connect themselves to their tribe—a connection that engenders smiles, belonging, and hope—all absolute necessities for optimum healing.

Many families don’t have an extra portable computer to take to the hospital. Families frequently need to keep the single-family laptop at home for day to day business, and the financial burdens of illness, and travel often prohibit the purchase of an additional one.

ArtThread is providing computers to patients to help with this need – and we need your help. Jordan Jones, a testicular cancer patient and recipient of an ArtThread computer (shown at right), has traveled thousands of miles to Denver and New York City for treatment. ArtThread supplied Jordan with a small, cost- effective laptop that has allowed Jordan to stay connected to his support community.

With your help ArtThread will give away 50 laptops in the first half of 2016 to patients with long-term hospitalizations for health challenges such as organ and bone marrow transplant, and cancer. ArtThread fills the computers with educational and creativity resources, so in addition to providing a vital social and community connection, the computers supply advocacy, education, and of course ArtThread creativity tools for the patients and their families.

Every $250 we receive gets converted into a touch-screen laptop with everything installed and ready. That touchscreen is a beautiful interface for making art online – and sharing it with friends and family.

ArtThread fills the computers with educational and creativity resources, so in addition to providing a vital social and community connection, the computers supply advocacy, education, and of course ArtThread creativity tools for the patients and their families.

“The amazing generosity of others continues to fill our hearts with such gratitude!! Jordan received a new laptop yesterday from a fellow testicular cancer survivor, Jay Klein, who founded an organization called ArtThread Foundation to engage patients with online arts while going through treatment. Thank you Jay and Rob!!”
